FOYER FOCUS EXHIBITION

Randolph College students visit the Foyer Focus exhibition at the Maier Museum

As part of a new ongoing initiative between the Maier Museum of Art and Randolph College faculty, a dedicated exhibition space in the Museum’s foyer will feature exhibitions that support College course curriculum during the academic year.

In the fall of 2024, the Foyer Focus: Art and Protest exhibition was developed to enhance the art history/museum and heritage studies course Art and Protest which considers how and why visual works of art have played a vital role in movements for social change. The artwork in the exhibition highlights responses by artists inspired by a range of American history events such as the war in Vietnam, the Cambodian genocide, and McCarthy’s 1968 presidential election campaign.

In addition to focused conversations about these works of art, students contributed interpretive content in the form of “Community Voice Labels” which aim to include the perspectives and lived experiences of the people a museum serves.
