Contour line drawings of oversized hands are a central motif in American artist Aminah Robinson’s work. Her large-scale woodcuts include simple, seemingly uneventful moments dramatized through scale, composition and visual contrast. After discussing Robinson’s work on view at the Maier, we will explore contour line drawing and relief printing processes with local artist Jill Jensen. Then, you will create a graphically dynamic relief print.
Aminah Robinson’s work is featured in the 110th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Storytellers: Faith Ringgold + Aminah Robinson, on view October 1, 2021 – April 1, 2022.
