Back to Front: Artists’ Books by Women
Back to Front: Artists’ Books by Women is curated by Martha Chiplis, in collaboration with artist Lyall Harris and Maier Museum of Art director, Martha Kjeseth Johnson.
Chiplis remarks, “Artists’ books contain just as many subjects as conventional books, but in addition they take on the very subject of ‘the book’ itself—questioning and deconstructing it, turning it ‘back to front,’ examining and utilizing unconventional navigation, puncturing and celebrating the very ‘bookness’ of books. Book artists are readers, and they like to play with paper and words.”
